Undead | Regeneration | Sleep of the Dead
| Trait | Description |
| Undead Unaging Doesn't need to eat or drink Must consume blood | A vampire is the living dead, a walking and talking corpse. As he has already died, the vampire no longer ages or experiences hunger or thirst as they once did. To remain "alive" though, he must consume the blood of other living creatures, usually humans. A vampire can sustain himself on the blood of lesser beings, such as rodents and canines, but doing so requires far more "cattle" than simply feeding on humans and carries a stigma attached to it; practitioners are generally given insulting nicknames. |
| Regeneration | Mortals heal wounds through time, rest and medical treatment. The undead heal supernaturally, using their stolen blood to repair their bodies. Ordinary medical treatment offers them no benefits whatsoever. Bashing damage (from clubs, fists, and other blunt objects) heals nearly instantaneously, while lethal damage (from guns, knives, swords, and other objects that break the skin) takes a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the severity. Of course, a vampire has a limited supply of blood in their lifeless veins, so taking excessive damage from either source can still prove fatal. Damage from aggravated sources (such as fire and sunlight) is especially difficult to heal, requiring nearly half the amount of blood a single human can provide the vampire per point of damage to heal, and the process must be spent over the course of two nights per point. Thus, most vampires would rather simply flee at the first sign of fire and avoid sunlight at all costs than take their chances in a fight. |
| Sleep of the Dead | The ancients called sleep the brother of death. This is even more true for vampires than for mortals. Every day, a vampire enters a sleep that mortal senses and science cannot distinguish from death. The vampires experience it much as a mortal experiences sleep. A Vampire can also enter a deeper sleep, however, in which his soul comes even closer to death. They call this state torpor. A vampire's daily sleep lasts a few hours, but torpor can last for centuries. |
